HOOSIER SHAKES WORKSHOPS

Hoosier Shakes works to reveal the delight of Shakespeare’s theatre, language, and ideas by producing accessible, quality performances. 

Workshops are $20 each or $50 for all three.

The Play's the Thing! Shakespeare Scenes with Hoosier Shakes

Taught by Gloria Billingsley and Julie Schaefer

Thurs. Aug. 1 from 1-4 pm

Company members from past and present seasons will lead a workshop on one of Shakespeare's many "Original Practices".  In this course we will explore what it might have been like to be an actor in Shakespeare's company. Students will be lead through a few scenes in the Elizabethan manner, and those who wish to will be given the opportunity to perform one of these scenes along with our Hoosier Shakes Company during the intermission of our show that night in the Charley Creek Gardens.

If Music Be the Food of Love: Shakespeare's Musicians

Taught by Aeron Kincaide

Fri. Aug. 2 from 1-4 pm

Hoosier Shake's Music Director will be leading a workshop on the way we here at Hoosier Shakes prepare and perform our music and the importance that music held in Shakespeare's day. Students will learn one of our Season numbers and those who wish to will have the opportunity to perform with the company during the evening performance at Charley Creek Gardens.

Overthrow More Than Your Enemies : Combat for the Stage

Taught by Will Burby and Lauren McDonald

Sat. Aug. 3 from 1-4 pm

Hoosier Shakes' fight director and fellow SAFD Certified combatant will be teaching a course on the basics of stage combat, as can be found in the company's performance of As You Like It. Students in this course will learn basic unarmed violence choreography such as punches, kicks, hair pulls, and more, as well as how to perform these motions safely. Those who wish to will have the opportunity to show off their combat skills at the intermission of Hoosier Shakes' performance that evening in the Charley Creek Gardens. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in and don't mind getting dirty.
